The Arabic summer program at the University of Arizona at the School of Middle Eastern and North African Studies (MENAS) is a rigorous, immersive program that adopts the proficiency-based approach and emphasizes cultural literacy and the use of technology. The program is open to non-degree-seeking, high school students in their Junior and Senior years, and grad students. The MENAS Arabic Summer program offers a variety of in-class and co-curricular activities, including Arabic-speaking housing. Three levels of Arabic are taught by dynamic, innovative and experienced teachers in a supportive and culturally-rich environment.
All classes are from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, five days a week, followed by office hours:• Elementary Arabic I, ARB 101: June 3 – July 3. For students with no previous language background in Arabic. Students cover Alif Baa and Lessons 1-6 of Al-Kitaab, Part one.• Elementary Arabic II, ARB 102: July 8 – August 7. Prior completion of one college semester (or equivalent) of Arabic is required. Lessons 7-13 of Al-Kitaab, Part one are covered in this course.• Intermediate Arabic I, ARB 401: June 3 – July 3. Prior completion of two college semesters (or equivalent) of Arabic is required. This course covers Lessons 14-20 of Al-Kitaab, Part one.• Intermediate Arabic II, ARB 402: July 8 – August 7. Prior completion of three college semesters (or equivalent) of Arabic is required. This course covers Lessons 1-5 of Al-Kitaab, Part Two.• Advanced Arabic I, ARB 405: June 3 – July 3. Prior completion of four college semesters (or equivalent) of Arabic is required. This course covers advanced level Arabic content material.• Advanced Arabic II, ARB 406: July 8 – August 7. Prior completion of five college semesters (or equivalent) of Arabic is required. This course covers advanced level Arabic content material.
As a teacher, your duty toward your class is not limited to teaching. It also includes knowing which students are weak in which subjects and finding ways to assess this. Once you are able to do this, you will find that your students respond better to your classes and that you can tailor your classes to their needs.
In this volume, you will find many teaching
assessment principles and practices that may not be conventional. However, they
do work. How do I know? I have been teaching classrooms for most of my career
and the techniques have all been tried and tested. They also apply to kids of
most ages although your technique is tailored to their ability level. Thus,
whereas you would use written work in some of the exercises, younger kids may
be encouraged to answer your assessment questions in picture format.
Not only do you gain the respect of your class, but they also feel that their voices are being listened to. Once you cross that teacher/student barrier in this way, the response that you get from children is always going to be more successful. You will know from the assessments where you need to place more or less emphasis. Children are all different and learn differently. It’s hard when you have a class of kids in front of you to level your teaching to fit all of them. However, when you learn assessment techniques that are effective – regardless of whether they are established or recognized – you win the battle of wits and are able to assess your class accurately.
The kids within your class deserve your best
attention. Perhaps you think that you are giving them this, but the
unconventional assessments shown within the pages of this book may demonstrate
that you are not. I hope so because it will keep you on your toes, learning the
different styles of learning and being able to cater for them. When you know
how to do that, you improve your overall score values in your class and it is
noticed by a school that your particular method of teaching has value. You will
also find that your principal is only too happy to oblige you with extra props
and the potential of outings if you explain in such a way that he will see the
benefit to the children.
I hope that the book gives you sufficient information to up the ante in the classroom and helps you to bring out your gift of teaching, in such a manner that your assessments help you to give that same value to each child in your class. Knowing their strengths and weaknesses is essential and once you do, you can use this to your advantage. Remember, they are not the only ones with weaknesses and strengths. Teachers have these too and addressing them will make you a stronger teacher and a more respected one.
Chapter One:
Pre-Assessment of Backgrounds
If you know something about the kids that are in
your charge, this helps you to understand why they respond to class in certain
ways. Remember that children will always be influenced by their surroundings
and their parents’ attitudes. Thus, if you are teaching politics and you know
that the majority of the kids in your class come from Republican families, you
will know that pushing the idea of democracy may be hard. However, it’s easier
than you think if you take a neutral stance and teach kids the basics so that
they are informed enough to form their own views. One of the mistakes that teachers
do make is bringing their own beliefs into the classroom and this is something
that you should avoid at all costs. If a child sees that a teacher is biased,
that gives the child license to be biased too. Kids emulate what they see in
the way of behavior. Thus, knowing a bit about their backgrounds is paramount
because it tells you how to approach subjects that may not be of interest to
them.
In a younger class, kids may be asked to
introduce themselves to their fellow classmates and tell them a little about
themselves. Teachers should listen attentively to these talks as they give away
a lot of information. The shy kid, the kid who is going to be difficult and the
kids who don’t have a lot of happiness in their lives actually come to the
forefront by watching:
Their body language
The way they approach talking
about themselves
The way that they talk and
what they talk about
Their reluctance to answer
questions
That’s all pretty basic stuff in a younger class
because you can help children to change opinions and become more open minded.
However, with older kids you need to be a little spontaneous and ask them
things when they think the class is at an end. Thus watch your clock and a few
minutes before the end of the class, pass out papers to your students to fill
out when they get home, as part of their homework. These can include questions
about what the student expects to get from the class you are teaching. Kids
won’t be expecting a question like that when they are being asked for their
opinion, but if you start out in this way, you open up avenues for children to
actually tell you how they feel about the class, rather than simply sitting
there like dummies keeping their thoughts to themselves.
In one instance where I asked kids to describe
what they wanted out of the class, the written homework that was handed in told
me so much about the kids that I was able to adjust the curriculum a little so
that it took into account the fact that most of the kids were visual learners
and needed that stimulation to help them to retain an interest in the subject.
Typical comments would be:
I will find all the reading
material hard to understand
I think a lot of what is
taught isn’t relevant to our lives
I hate this subject
I would prefer to be watching
TV
You have to remember that these are children being brought up in a very visual age. They may enjoy playing video games and they may enjoy studying online. However, it’s your job, as a teacher to find out if the kids are visual learners if they enjoy learning through auditory means, whether they are kinesthetic learners (those who prefer a tactile approach) and which kids in your class actually prefer to learn from written material. Gear your questions in such a manner that kids give this away in their replies.
For example:
Which do you prefer?
Watching
educational programs on TV
Reading
quietly
Role
acting situations that help you to learn
Learning
from visits to places that help the learning experience
Using
Internet research
The unorthodox question you have to ask them is what they expect to get from the class. This one helps you to see individual answers, but it will only do this if you grab the attention of the kids before you give out the questions and tell each and every one of them that they should write what is true and not be worried about what they think the teacher wants them to say. Establishing their individual right to have certain beliefs helps to get you off on a good footing with the kids and even if they are less than flattering in their answers, you should not pull them up about it, but learn to accept that their approach may be different to the standard approach. Knowing their characters helps you to decide who leads and who needs that extra help with their learning experience.
How to write a successful message to get accepted in march by amazon?
1 – Reapply using a different IP address son there’s no IP match between my logins. I was thinking to do it froma coffee shop with Wifi or something similar. Maybe it’s easier to do using a VPN or a proxy.
2 – Create a new Amazon account using the VPN or Proxy and use the new email to reapply. This way there will not be an email match.
3 – Use a different street address. Since I used the address of my parents, this time I’ll use the current rented house I’m living in. What worries me here is that I’m from Spain and maybe that’s a drawback. It would be better to have a US street address. Not sure of this.
4 – Use a different bank account which I already have. Again, it’s a Spanish bank account.

I have been creating t-shirt designs for several years now and have been uploading them on other print on demand platforms such as RedBubble, Dazzle, Teespring and others with good success.
I feel I can bring my unique design skill set and experience to merch by amazon and provide the marketplace with unique t-shirt designs. I am looking forward to hearing back from you.

I am a very talented graphic designer with a passion for creating logos, designs and artwork in general. I have been working with a lot of local brands and companies for the last 3 years now.
But I want to be able to sell my own designs to a much bigger audience of people and march by amazon is the perfect way for me to get started with.
Thank you.
Tell Amazon about your designer background.
As well as details of your background as a designer.
March By Amazon:

Jacob Topping – search on YouTube for Jacob. And he has a great Facebook group called Merch By Amazon Top Sellers for Newbies & Pros Facebook group and, more importantly, Jacob has a fantastic ebook called Merch and the World of Print On Demand which is a great book, not only about Merch but also about the other platforms where you can make money selling all sorts of merchandise.
Founded in 2015, Merch by Amazon was designed to
attract app developers to Amazon’s vast online ecosystem in order for them to
design and upload branded tee shirts. These designs were then developed into
branded tee shirts that would be produced by Amazon, uploaded and featured on
their marketplace and shipped by Amazon. All the designers had to do was to
come up with the designs.
Marketed as the ultimate Print on Demand
opportunity, Merch was opening up the tee shirt market to anyone with a vision.
The lack of upfront costs and with customer service being handled by Amazon,
this meant that Merch guaranteed a commission for every sale without the hassle
of a new business venture.
This innovative marketing tool soon attracted
people from varied walks of life. Merch grew quickly and the demand for
membership soon exceeded any expectations and Amazon found they needed to limit
membership to avoid challenges to the platform. They introduced an “Application
Only” policy, which remains the policy to date.
How do I apply to
join Merch?
Once you decide that Merch is the passive income
opportunity you want to become a part of, the next step is to apply for membership.
Before you apply, make sure you have the following resources:
A
company name will make your application seem more professional. Create a name
that you can identify with.
A
personal website which can highlight some of your designs.
Experience
on other print on demand sites will help. Check out Redbubble, Sunfrog, Zazzle
or Teepublic and try out your design skills.
Get
inspiration. Try YouTube for other designers who have success on Merch, also
Facebook is a great way to connect with Merch aficionados.
Contact
information
Bank
account and routing numbers
Social security number or
alternative tax identification code
Sign into your Amazon account. This can be a
buyer’s account, your seller’s account or a brand-new account solely for Merch.
You will also find a tax survey and a company profile section. You will also
need to supply your banking information. If you are outside of the US, Amazon
may withhold up to 30% of your income for tax purposes.
Now head over to merch.amazon.com/landing and you
will see the invitation form. Remember you only get one try at this so make
sure you have done your prep work. Click “agree” on the terms of service and
the form will appear. Take your time to fill out all the sections and carefully
consider your answers.
Organization name: Fill in your name or business
name.
Website (optional): Now this section may seem
optional but bear in mind you are trying to stand out from the crowd. If you
haven’t got a website, you should at least have a portfolio on one of the sites
we described earlier.
Industry type: Choose the option that suits you
best. Small business is an option that shows you take your ideas seriously.
Additional information: This is the area that you
can use to sell yourself. Those who watch my YouTube videos about Merch by Amazon know
that I concentrate on how to write the additional information about yourself. I
always shed light on the importance of following the guidelines. Merch asks you
to talk about yourself and your design background. Then, they ask you to write about
what designs you plan to create for Merch. Tell Amazon how excited you are to become a
member of Merch and what you can bring to the table. Tell them how unique and
on trend your ideas are and what they can expect from you as a designer. Don’t
worry if you don’t have experience as that will come in time. Enthusiasm is the
key to being noticed, sell yourself and your designs!
Here is an example:
Hi,
Best,
Once you are happy with the form, go ahead and
click on “Send Request” and that’s it! You will now have to wait to be
accepted. There is no guaranteed time frame for a response, but it will
probably be months rather than weeks. You will receive an email once your application
has been processed but these can sometimes go astray. Check back at
merch.amazon.com regularly to see if your account has been activated. Check
your spam folder regularly too.
Once you have
been accepted what next?
Okay, so the happy day has arrived, and you have
your Merch account. Now is the time to acquaint yourself with the dashboard.
You will find four tabs on the right-hand side of your page and here is how you
use them.
Dashboard
This is your first tab. Here you will see all the
products you have for sale listed under “recent activity” on the left-hand side
of the page. You can also view messages from the Merch team and track the slots
you have available.
Create
The second tab is where you access the design
page. There is a drop-down menu that allows you to choose the type of product
you want to upload, and you can check out how your design looks. You have different
options to place your artwork on the front and back of the tee shirts but, on
the whole, the process is simple to understand.
Manage
The third tab gives you access to all of your
products. It will give you information including the product, date created,
list price, status, and action. You will see a status for all of your shirts
and they will let you know what is happening with each design. It is common, to
begin with, “Under review” and then “Started processing” until you will finally
achieve “Processing” status.
This means that your product is live and on the
Amazon marketplace, ready for people to buy! You will be able to click a link
and see your design as the customer sees it.
Analyze
The final tab will serve you well once you have a
couple of items that are selling. Here you will be able to track your sales,
date, and check price wise whether your item is competitive. It will also allow
you to check your earnings and which of your products are selling the best.
Quick Note
You have 90 days to sell your tee shirt before it is deleted from the catalog. This is the best way to keep the catalog up to date and helps you see what is selling. However, once you sell a tee shirt, this particular design will remain on Amazon forever, or until you delete it!
